6 Types of Boston Gates Designs
Gates add security and beauty to any property but it’s not easy to choose the right one. You need to consider the amount of space you have on your property, the purpose of the gates, the kind of mechanism you want, and how much do you want to pay for it. At Boston Ironworks, we manufacture and sell different kinds of gates and are always willing to offer all the advice you need on Boston gate designs. Here’s a brief introduction to the types of gates available to you.
1. Swing Gates
These are some of the most common gate designs and have a very simple mechanism. They’re usually one or two gate doors mounted on hinges that swing inward or outward. They can be either mechanical or automatic and require a straight driveway to work.
2. Billfold Gates
Billfold gates are a great alternative to swing gates as they don’t take up as much space when they open or close. These gates have a fold in the middle so you can fold them and then swing them open. You require less straight driveway space with them.
3. Sliding Gates
Sliding gates are ideal for shorter or curved driveways that don’t have enough depth or space to accommodate swinging or billfold doors. As the name suggests, the gate doors will slide out of the way, usually moving in the direction of one corner. You can choose standard or double sliding gate designs.
4. Tandem Gates
You can use tandem gates if you don’t have enough space on the sides to accommodate a full sliding gate and can only open in one side. These gates run on a double track and two or three doors of smaller widths will slide parallel to each other in order to save space. This is one of the best Boston gate designs if you have limited space.
5. Tapered Gates
Tapered gates are specifically designed for sloping driveways. An experienced manufacturer will ensure there’s enough ground clearance when the gates open and close to ensure the metal doesn’t touch the ground.
6. Top Hung Gates
This gate is usually found in buildings and parking lots where the gate opening system can be installed on top of the entryway. As the name suggests, the gate is attached on top and can be lowered to close the entryway.
