Back to Basics- 5 Types of Door Materials

Most people don’t give too much thought to the kind of doors they have on their property and feel that a door is nothing but a door after all. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth; there are a number of different  types of doors available and they all serve  very specific purposes. It’s important that you use the right door  for the right application. While we manufacture fabricated  gates and  doors there are other varieties you can choose from too. Let’s take a look at what these are:

1. Hollow metal

These are extremely durable cold steel, durable installations suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. These fabricated gates and doors are ideal for settings such as storehouses or warehouses where  there are  chances of  impact due to moving carts or other equipment. However, these doors have a tendency to rust, and proper maintenance and an occasional paint job are required to keep them in a good condition.

2. Stainless Steel

Stainless steel doors are also ideal for indoor and outdoor settings; they are corrosion-resistant, which makes them better-suited to chemical and high salt applications. It’s possible to disinfect them without affecting the paint finish in any way; its why they are a popular  choice for restaurant spaces. The downside to these doors is that there is not much design flexibility and they don’t provide sufficient insulation.

3. Fiberglass

These are generally used in outdoor applications and are available in a variety of designs and styling. Some designs also mimic the look of wooden doors and they are able to withstand harsh chemicals and environments quite well. Fiberglass doors are more economical than SS doors but aren’t as durable as the latter.

4. Wood

Wooden doors have a classic appeal and are best for indoor applications. They are available in a variety of designs and finishes and you can choose from basic flat doors with very simplistic designs or more ornate and elaborate ones. They provide excellent insulation and have soundproofing properties too.  Some wood species can warp or get damaged in humid conditions and they need regular staining and polishing to keep them in a good condition.

5. Laminate

These are suitable only for indoor applications and ones that have been manufactured using high-quality materials and proper manufacturing processes are quite durable. They are available in a range of design options and it’s very easy to disinfect and clean them. However, it’s not really possible to aesthetically repair these doors if there are  chips/scratches on them.
