High Functionality Custom Interior Railings

High Functionality Custom Interior Railings

For most people a railing is just that, something to grasp or hold on to while climbing a flight of stairs or a ramp. There is however a wide variety of railings, all of which serve different purposes. Depending on where they have to be installed, you may need exterior railings, custom interior railings or handicap railings.

The Installations

A regular handrail is made specifically to provide support or it may be a safety feature, as when it is used along a staircase. This runs either horizontal or sloping, depending on the surface where the person would be walking.  You would find handrails commonly installed along:

  • Ramps
  • Staircases
  • Balconies
  • Bath/ shower areas
  • Handicap guidance areas

Boston Ironworks has been in this industryfor almost 100 years and in this time, we have built a reputation for both quality and service. We custom design a wide variety of railings and other products in wrought iron and aluminum for your home or office.

Custom Interior Railings & Exterior Railings

Building codes dictate the height of custom interior railings.  However, when you decide to install a railing inside your home, you have it designed to blend into the interiors of the premises. The entire installation would be designed to match your styling preference and will be fabricated in the metal of your choice. In some instances, these railings would be a mix-and-match of materials such as metal, wood and glass.

Installation of exterior railings has some specific requirements. These have to be sturdier and the finish has to be able to withstand the elements too. This is why, in most instances, these installations are made with powder-coated aluminum as this helps them withstand the onslaught of nature’s elements.

Handicap Railings

All handicap railings have to be mounted at a height of 34 to 38 inches, and should essentially have a smooth surface and be easy to grasp with the ends rounded off, to where the railing ends. This creates a safe environment both at home and public places for the elderly and those with disabilities and limited mobility. Many hotels and public restrooms also have handicap railings installed inside to prevent accidental falls.
